A Talented youngster picked up two top honours at the Urdd Eisteddfod yesterday – and picked up a ticket to Disneyland Paris for himself and his family.
Rhys Meilyr Jones, from Ysgol Corn Hir, Llangefni won the singing solo for 10 and 11 year old and the cerdd dant solo for those under 12 at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Ceredigion.
The 11-year-old also came second in the folk song solo.
A delighted Rhys said: “I enjoy competing and I hadn’t won the cerdd dant solo before so it’s great to have won it this time.
He’ll be back at the Maes today singing with the school choir before enjoying a few days holiday in Ceredigion with his brother Ynyr and sister Alaw.
Rhys’ victory in the solo means he’ll be one of five winners from this week’s Eisteddfod heading to Paris next March to take part in the Welsh Festival in the famous theme park.
Singing and taking part in a parade with Mickey Mouse won’t be a new experience for Rhys as he took part in this year’s festival too.
A regular competitor at the smaller village Eisteddfodau around Wales Rhys will now take a break from competing until the National Eisteddfod in August.
When not singing Rhys plays football for the llangefni under 11s and is a keen Manchester United fan.
